Radiant skin, silky locs, renewed energy, and a slimmer waistline are yours when you make this smoothie a staple in your diet!
I just love spreading the Gospel of my beloved Food Guru, celebrity nutritionist and detox specialist Kimberly Snyder. In teaching me about the links between food, mental clarity, energy levels, mood, beauty, and broader health, Kimberly’s writings revolutionized my approach to my diet and thus my overall life. (Yes, my family members and I have been known to refer to her solely by her first name, like we personally know her! Lol).
Central to Kimberly’s nutritional philosophy, is her belief that “outer beauty is a reflection of inner health.” In her best-selling book, The Beauty Detox Solution, Kimberly supplies readers with enough scientific evidence and personal anecdotes from a slew of clients to provide a compelling case for adopting a plant-based diet, specifically one based on living, raw foods, that employs proper food combining (pairing foods so as to facilitate optimal digestion), and consistent, intelligent cleansing.
As a student of Holistic Health & Nutrition, I frequently get questions about tips for improving one’s diet. I typically recommend adopting Kimberly’s Glowing Green Smoothie for breakfast as a starting point. It’s been three years since I was first introduced to her now famous “Glowing Green Smoothie” recipe thanks to Milly Almodovar of Beauty Logic. A surprisingly tasty combination of dark leafy greens and fruit, it’s a really simple way to get a large dose of mineral-rich greens into the body. The fiber from the fruits and veggies make this smoothie quite filling. Smoothies are excellent because blending ruptures the cell walls in which nutrients are encased making them more easily assimilated by the body.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 head organic romaine lettuce, chopped*
- 3-4 stalks organic celery
- 1/2 head of a large bunch, or 3/4 of a small bunch of spinach
- 2 organic apples, cored and chopped or 1 organic apple and 1 organic pear
- 1 organic banana
- Juice of 1/2 fresh organic lemon
- 1/3 bunch organic cilantro (stems okay)
- 1/3 bunch organic parsley (stems okay)
* be sure to rotate greens -e.g. Spinach, Swiss Chard, Kale, etc.
Directions
Add the water and chopped head of romaine to the blender. Starting the blender at low speed, mix until smooth. Gradually moving to higher speeds, add the celery, apple and pear. Add the cilantro and parsley, if you are choosing to add them. Add the banana and lemon juice last.
Feel free to mix and match different greens and fruits, as these two specific food groups combine well.
